Isle of Wight Bestival 2007 gets a big thumbs up from Rob da Bank.

Bestival 2007 saw the hills and woodlands at Robin Hill Country Park become the perfect setting for a weekend of live music and fun from a variety of performers. Local Island Artists and Bands joined numerous DJs to keep the party atmosphere going throughout the three day festival. The Bestival in having won best medium-sized festival at the UK Festival Awards, rose to a higher profile this year and on Friday we managed to capture Ventnor Mayor Susan Scoccia with local councillors checking out the various attractions the Bestival had to offer. In the Bestivalley devoted to arts and crafts you could really get involved, one brave young lady took a try at tree-climbing right up to the top of one of the 60 foot+ trees. There were opportunities to try and learn to make Bestival bunting from recycled materials, this helped your creative side (if you had one) to shine through. The most hands on fun was to be had in clay, Quay Arts recent project to make a mini Bestival Village was on display and interactive, every time we passed it just grew and grew. Whilst the most imaginative and popular art-based activity in the 'Bestivillage' was making your mark on the giant Bestival letters, by the end of the weekend, the original pink lettering was transformed into a colourful display of all things Bestival. Some Bestivalites chose to tie-the-knot in the Inflatable Church on the Hill complete with its very own parson. It was the perfect place to tie the knot especially if you wanted a green wedding, and proved to be a match made in heaven for these intrepid turtles. However there was one act not featured in the pre Bestival stage line up who alighted the main stage on Saturday and took the audience by storm. Madness floored the crowd with an opening set delayed due to an explosive start, a massive bang possibly a fuse blew, who knows, but after being the worst kept secret guests, they used Madness magic to belt out songs across the idyllic landscape of Robin Hill. Thanks to the organisers for making Bestival Unlike any other event, its unique appeal and laid-back atmosphere is felt wherever you go on the site. It's plain to see that everyone goes to have a good time and we are happy to say, not in the minority and in no way disappointed with our Bestival experience 2007, roll on 2008.
