Bestival 2007 on the Isle of Wight is now underway and more than 20,000 music lovers have pitched their tents in anticipation of the quirkiest music festival of the summer.
Local band Hugo Fruslinky winners of the recent Bestival Band competition, who have only been together since January opened the proceedings on Friday at midday on the main stage.
The event at Robin Hill Country Park, billed as a “boutique” festival, aims to liven up the party atmosphere with great music and novel elements such as fancy dress and a moustache growing competition.
Other attractions throughout the weekend include the Inflatable Church complete with its very own parson, a Tiny Tearoom, and various local charities (pictured below) are onsite with a wealth of information to raise awareness of their specific cause.

The Bestival, which won best medium-sized festival at the 2006 UK Festival Awards, has been given a higher profile this year. Island Pulse captured Ventnor Mayor Susan Scoccia (pictured above) and local councillors checking out the various attractions the Bestival Village has to offer.
Festival spokeswoman Clare Woodcock said:
“This ain’t no ordinary summer shindig.
“Bestival, now in its fourth year, is well known for its unique creativity, innovation and darned-right cheekiness. Our three-day world of utter escapism takes festival lovers into the realms of surreal adventure.
“Not only does Bestival stand out with its most brilliant array of bands, DJs and performances curated by Rob da Bank, but we are also renowned for eye-catching bespoke arenas.”
